Between approximately 3:30 AM and 6:40 AM PST on November 18, 2025, some users experienced widespread errors (either HTTP 403 or HTTP 504 errors) when attempting to access OpenAI websites including ChatGPT Web, platform.openai.com, Sora.com, and openai.com. ChatGPT users and Sora users using iOS and Android mobile apps were not affected. Similarly, API traffic and backend services remained healthy and unaffected.

The errors stemmed from a faulty configuration rollout by an upstream third-party networking provider. The provider rolled back the faulty configuration at 6:40 AM PST and traffic immediately began recovering.

We are pursuing measures to improve the resilience of the authentication system to avoid similar impact in future.
